Water reflection effect in Photoshop
Let's learn how to create a wavy water reflection effect in this really easy to follow Photoshop tutorial.

1.

|
|
Open a picture where you want to apply the reflection.
|
|
|
2.

|
|
Choose the Rectangular Marque Tool.
|
|
|
3.

|
|
Make a selection of the part you want it to reflect (see picture).
Press Ctrl + J to create a new layer from your selection.
|
|
|

|
|
Press Ctrl + T to enter the free transform mode.
Set the vertical scale to -100% (see picture).
|
|
|

|
|
Press Enter to confirm transformation changes.
Press Ctrl + D to deselect you selection.
Press V to choose the Selection Tool and move the new layer so it looks like the original image reflection (see picture).

Create a new layer.
Press D and X to set the white foreground color.
Press Alt + Delete to fill the new layer with white color.
|
|
|

In the menu click Filter, Sketch and choose Halftone Pattern...
In the settings window, set the Size to 7, Contrast to 50 and choose Line as a Pattern Type.
Click OK.

In the menu click Filter, Blur and choose Gaussian Blur...
Set the Radius to 4 pixels and click OK.
|
|

In the menu click Layer and choose Duplicate Layer...
Choose a New document and enter Lines next to the Name.
Click OK.
|

Now let's save this document that we will need to make the reflection look wavy.
In the menu click File and choose Save As... and save the file.
|
|
|

Now go back to your first document and delete the lines layer (see picture).
|
|
|

|
Press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + E to merge all the layers into a new layer.
Your layer situation should be looking like mine at this point.

In the menu click Filter, Distort and choose Displace...
In the Displace settings window, set Horizontal Scale to 4 and Vertical Scale to 0.
Choose Stretch To Fit and Repeat Edge Pixels options and click OK then when asked open the document you saved in step 10 (Lines.psd).

Your picture is now all in waves.
|

Choose the Rectangular Marque Tool and make a selection to exactly where the reflection starts (see picture).
Press Delete to delete the selection.
