Comet Lovejoy is a periodic comet, meaning it has an orbital period of less than 200 years. It was discovered on 27 November 2011, by amateour astronomer Terry Lovejoy.

The comet nucleus - the solid, central part of the comet, has been estimated to be 1,600 feet (500 meters) in diameter.
