How to check disk for errors in Mac OS X
Errors on the hard disk on your Mac OS X computer can be the cause why the computer doesn't run as fast as it used to. Let me show you how to check and repair the errors on a disk drive.

1.
Click to open Applications.
You can simply enter Disk Utility into Spotlight search, run it and skip to step 4.
4.
Choose the First Aid and then select the disk you want to check for errors.
6.
To proceed with the check, confirm the Verify Disk.
7.
Wait a few minutes (depending on the size of the disk) for the verifying process to go through.

In my case no errors have been found, my disk appears to be OK.
If the disk utility found some errors on your disk, click Repair Disk and hope all of them or most of them get repaired.
One thing you can also check is Verify Disk Permissions. Especially if you have been installing and removing a lot of apps. This can also slow down your computer.

In my case I got a bunch of permission inconsistencies on my hard drive volume. To repair them simply click Repair Disk Permissions ...
10.
... and wait for the Disk Utility to complete the permission repairing process.
I suggest you to do this two check once in a while, especially if you find your computer running slowly.
