How to force quit unresponsive application in Mac OS
If you experience an Mac OS X program to freeze and you cannot exit it by clicking quit or using a keyboard shortcut, you can always force it to quit using the Activity Monitor.

Let's say your Safari web browser freezes and stops responding and you cannot quit it by clicking Safari in the menu and choosing Quit Safari ...
|

|
... or right clicking Safari icon and choosing Quit, do the following ...
|
|
|

|
Click the Spotlight Search button and start typing activity monitor in the search field.
Click Activity Monitor in search results.

In Activity Monitor window, search for the non-responding app or Safari in my case.
Click it ...
|
|
|

|
|
... and click the red Quit Process button to force quit the frozen program/app.
|
|
|
6.

|
|
Confirm the Force Quit button and that should be it. The app should now get force closed.
