I have a rather old computer wit 2GB RAM and now I am planning to make a clean install of operating system. Now I need to decide which operation system to load.

Since computer is not very powerful I would now like to know which OS would perform best. I am considering Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Does anybody have any benchmarks results that would show which system is the most suitable.

Here is a good review comparing Windows 7 and Windows 8 in different benchmarks.

But this was tested on good computer with 16BG of RAM and it is not necessary this also scales down to lower end computers with less RAM.

If you are looking at memory requirements then situation is the following:

Windows XP < Windows 8 < Windows 7 < Windows Vista

So whatever you do just stay away from Vista.
