Does anyone know what is the cost of converting a car to use autogas (LPG)?
Also I would like to know what is the efficency comparing to petrol.

In Europe it costs about 1500-2000€.
Efficiency is just slightly lower comparing to petrol, but considering the price of autogas and petrol, your investment is soon returned.

I heard many people saying investment is soon returned but I think that it's not practical and I am sure that electricity is the next oil for our vehicles.

Comparing to electricity I think gas is much more practical. Electricity takes much longer to charge and you can make more miles with a full tank than with the full accumulator.
Also there are now speculations that the price of gas will drop even further because of new methods to gain gas, especially Hydraulic fracturing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_f....).
