You are right Erco, if there are no parentheses/brackets, then you need to multiply first an then add:
3 x 3 = 9
9 + 3 = 12
With parentheses (3 + 3) x 3, you have to add first and then multiply with the result:
3 + 3 = 6
6 x 3 = 18
It's basic knowledge, but you would be surprised how many people don't know the correct answer.
