Maybe a funny question but I wonder if MSNBC does have anything in common with Microsoft corporation?

Sure has. For 16 years, until last year (July 15, 2012), Microsoft owned 50% of MSNBC.

MSNBC and msnbc.com were founded in 1996 as partnerships of Microsoft and General Electric's NBC unit, which is now NBCUniversal.
