Today the cellphone is 40 years old |

40 years ago, on 3rd of April 1973, Motoral Engineer Marty Cooper made a first public call from a 2,5 pounds (1,1kg) heavy Motorola DynaTAC 8000x cellphone. He called Joe Engel, who was head of research department at the rival company Bell Labs and the historic words were "Joel, this is Marty. I'm calling you from a cell phone, a real handheld portable cell phone."
The Motorola DynaTAC 8000x went on commercial sale in March of 1983 and it would cost you $3,995. The cellphone battery lasted 30 minutes when talking and 8 hours in standby. It also rocked a LED display for dialing or recall of one of 30 phone numbers. The DynaTAC series was manufactured until 1994 and the last one was called Ultra Classic II.
