You are probably talking about web based or so called cloud services such as Google with it's email, docs, calendar and such. Apple's answer to cloud services is called iCloud and when you log in it looks like this:
As you can see you have a few services at your disposal and among them there is also Mail service. iWork is similar to Google Docs or Google Drive. iWork service provides you with iCloud for Keynote - similar to PowerPoint for making presentations, iCloud for Pages - documents and iCloud for Numbers - Excel like service. But those tools aren't free, you need to pay $10 for each in order to use them. I haven't had a go yet, so I cannot say how good or bad comparing to Google Docs iWork online tools are.
The Mail service (image bellow) is pretty straight forward, easy to use but a bit too plain for my liking. By too plain I don't mean designwise, but it lacks quite a few features comparing to Gmail, for instance I really miss the Gmail-like labels or email forwarding and some account settings. For a non-demanding user, it's perfect. The storage size for emails, documents, backups you get for free when registering to iCloud is 5GB. You can then upgrade the storage to additional 10GB ($20/year), 20GB ($40/year) or 20GB ($100/year).
