Man behind the daring plan is Elon Musk, the billionaire founder and CEO of the private spaceflight company SpaceX, which recently wrote history with the first ever private space flight: http://www.dreevoo.com/en/content.php?id....
At the Royal Aeronautical Society in London, held on November 16, mr. Musk talked about his ambition to build a settlement on Mars the size of a small city. The project would start with a 10-person crew who would begin building the infrastructure in the decades to come. According to Musk's calculations the whole 80,000 person colony project would cost around $36 billion.

According to Gawker, more than 78,000 people have applied to fly and help with the first settlements on Mars. It is a one way ticket mission, as they would not be able to return to the Earth. Meaning, more than 78,000 people are willing to die on Mars. That's pretty impressive, true pioneers.
