Ever heard about the phenomenon called volcano lightning? Just found about this spectacular display of nature only recently and this is how it looks like:

How exactly and why the volcano lightnings form is still a scientific enigma, even more of an enigma as the occurrence of the "normal" lightning. Where the scientist mostly stand united is that the phenomenon starts when the particles fall apart, either from a collision or when a large particles fell in two. The difference in aerodynamics of these particles makes the positively charged particles to separate from negatively charged ones. As the distance between positive and negative particles becomes bigger and then too big for the air to resist the flow of electricity, a lightning strikes.
