Hey, I'm new and here's my question. What makes an electric guitar sound the way it sounds?

Hi Stewie, welcome.

To answer your electric guitar question in the simplest way. An electric guitar has little magnets called pickups that sense the vibrations of the strings and then send an electronic signal to an amplifier and speaker. This what the magnetic pickup on an electric guitar looks like:

So basically, you could turn any acoustic guitar into an electric one by installing the magnetic pickup under the strings and plugin it into the amp?

Thanks a bunch mat!
