ScheduleMate was a graphical software tool designed to help shipping schedulers manage the outbound flow of goods in a warehouse, with its key feature being the ability to display schedule information graphically and adjust schedules using a mouse to drag and drop shipments, a unique capability at the time in the world of warehousing systems, where many still relied on command prompt interfaces requiring keyboard input. This innovative approach made ScheduleMate a success, leading to its implementation in similar facilities and further development over the next 15 years, during which it matured and gained the ability to automatically generate optimized schedules, allowing schedulers to fine-tune them as needed, often managing the flow of 50,000 cartons in a day. Over the years, Minidata, the creator of ScheduleMate, was frequently invited to smaller facilities struggling with scheduling issues, often relying on handwritten schedules, complex spreadsheets, or piles of paper, or using enterprise-level software (MRP, ERP, WMS) with weak scheduling components. However, ScheduleMate was not a good fit for these smaller businesses because it was customized software that required consulting services to implement, making it too big a product for them. In response, Minidata developed Max Scheduler in 2004, a production scheduling software suited for manufacturing and warehousing, designed to provide a simpler scheduling solution for businesses by allowing job information to be imported and schedules to be created through mouse drag and drop, with the added ability to publish schedules as webpages and integrate with QuickBooks and enterprise software such as ERP, MRP, and WMS.
