Restart your Windows computer without a reboot
Some installations or settings changes require you to restart your computer. In most cases you don't need to actually reboot it, you only need to restart the explorer.exe process.

Right click the Windows taskbar and choose Start Task Manager.
|
|
|

|
|
Click the Processes tab, find explorer.exe in the Image Name and right click it then choose End Process.
|

|

|
Confirm End process.
Your desktop is now probably empty and the Windows taksbar is also gone, don't worry that's normal, you will get them back in a sec.

In the menu of Windows Task Manager New Task (Run...)
|
|
|

|
|
In the Open: field enter explorer.exe and click OK.
Your desktop should be back right about now.
