New Surface tablet by Microsoft

Microsoft just revealed a tablet of their own that seems to have quite a number of advantages when compared with competitors.

Microsoft introduced a new tablet named Surface that looks like a cross between a tablet and a netbook. 10.6 inches in compact housing offers its users a perfect Windows 8 experience and comes in two versions.

Version no. 1 Windows RT is suited for a less demanding user, weighing 676 gram at 9.3 millimeters of thickness. USB 2.0, micro SD and Micro HD video come as standard, with 32 or 64 GB of storage as choice. Surface will be introduced to market same time as Windows 8. Price should be competitive.

Version no. 2: Windows 8 Pro  is suited for a more demanding user and leans more in direction of laptops, weighing 903 grams with thickness of 13.5 millimeters. Memory is doubled and users will be able to choose between 64 and 128 GB, with connectivity similar to RT version, differing in USB 3.0. Availability of product is expected three months after launch of Windows 8.

One of more interesting novelties should be covers that can be attached to the tablet via magnets and have a full QWERTY keyboard on the other side. A digital pen will be available as well, working like digital ink.. so when it comes close to the screen, sensibility to fingertips will be discarded.

Looks very promising.

If there will indeed be compatibility between desktop and tablet version of Windows, I think it will be very successful.

I think the prices are expected. It's not exactly cheap but also not to expensive for what you get and I think they will sell quite well.

Well Google's Nexus is only 199USD and I think it's a much better bargain. And they will soon introduce a bigger one too if you ask me. It should be cheaper.
