Abstract symmetric effect in Photoshop
For this effect, you don't need to take any hallucinogens, Photoshop will do the job just fine.

1.
|
|
|
Create a new document with equal dimensions.
I created a document with 1000 x 1000 pixels.
|
|
|
2.
|
|
|
Choose the Gradient Tool (G for a keyboard shortcut).
|
|
|
3.
|
|
|
Press D to set black and white color.
Choose the Foreground to Background gradient.
Click the Linear Gradient button (see picture).
|
|
|

|
Set Difference for a mode.
|
|
|

Now create a gradient, like I did.
Click and drag your mouse from one corner to another.
|
|
|

Then make some more gradients to achieve an effect similar to mine.
|

Press Ctrl + J, to duplicate the layer.
In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Flip Horizontal.
Set the layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press Ctrl + E, to merge layers.
|
|
|

Press Ctrl + J, to duplicate the layer.
In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Flip Vertical. Set the layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press Ctrl + E, to merge the layers.
|

It should look similar to mine by now.

Press Ctrl + J, to duplicate layers.
In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Rotate 90 CW.
Set the layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press Ctrl + E, to merge the layers.
|

It should look similar to mine by now.

In the menu click Layer, New Fill Layer ...
|
|
|

In the gradient settings window, set white color for the first slider, somewhere in the middle add a new slider with any color you like ...
|

... for the last slider, set a darker version of the color you chose in previous step.
|
|
|
18.
|
|
|
Set the layer blending mode to Linear burn (see picture).
|
|
|
19.
|
|
|
That's it, you are done.
