Thread and screw trick

Did you know the plain old sewing thread in a combination with water attracts smaller metal objects? Try it out yourself and expect to be amazed.

1.

Prepare a wooden surface you will use for this trick.

I've used a home kitchen counter.

2.

Now find a thread and a bunch of screws.

Thread should be made of cotton with a polyester core, but don't worry most of today's threads are like that.

3.

You need to make the surface wet, otherwise the physics won't work.

Take a piece of a paper towel and make it wet.

4.

Now make the wooden surface wet.

You can use a regular towel or a toilet paper as well if you don't have paper towel. Don't make the wooden surface too wet though, it should be moist.

5.

Now for the actual trick.

Put the thread on a moist surface and one screw above it. Make sure the head of a screw isn't facing the thread (see picture).

6.

Wait for about 5 to 10 minutes and head of the screw will turn towards the thread.

7.

And now to a more difficult task.

Take four threads and form a square, the threads should not touch each other.

8.

In about 10 minutes the screws will turn and touch with their heads, forming a star.

Now try one of your own setups and post them on a forum, let you imagination run wild!
