How to create a desktop shortcut in Mac OS X

In Mac OS world shortcuts are called aliases, let me show you how to create a folder, document or any other file shortcut, I mean alias.

1.

Open Main Disk to get to your folders.

Or any other way you access your folders.

2.

Right click the folder, document, picture, video or any other file you want to make an alias of ...

I'm going to make an alias of Dreevoo folder.

3.

... and choose Make Alias.

4.

And there's your shortcut/alias.

Notice the little black arrow on your alias icon, that's how you know it's only an alias and not an actual folder.

All you have to do now it click and drag it ...

5.

... on to your desktop.

You can also copy and paste it if that's your thing.

6.

To make it look a bit cleaner you can rename the alias from Dreevoo alias to just Dreevoo.

You rename an alias the same way you would rename any other folder or file. Click the name and edit it.

Delete the word alias in this case.

7.

And that's it.

Aliases are not actual folders or files, they are only pointers or shortcuts if you will, to the actual files or folders. Meaning, you can always delete them without fear of loosing the actual files or folders.
