Make a wooden engraved 3D ring in Photoshop

First we are going to create a nice looking 3D ring and then engrave some text in it.

  Author: mat | Version: CS5 | 26th December 2011 |

1.

Open an wooden texture image.

Click here to download wooden texture used in this tutorial.

2.

In the menu click 3D, then New Shape From Layer and choose Ring.

And a nice polished looking ring appeared as by magic.

3.

Click Object Rotate Tool (see picture) ...

4.

... and click and drag mouse down a bit to rotate the ring as I did.

5.

Choose Eyedropped Tool ...

6.

... and click the area on the ring where we're going to engrave some text to.

We just set the foreground color to color of the ring.

7.

Choose the Horizontal Type Tool.

8.

Choose the font you like, click the ring and enter some text (see picture).

9.

Click the Commit button to commit the text.

10.

Click Layer, Layer Style and choose Bevel and Emboss...

In the new settings window choose the same Structure settings as I did (see picture) ...

11.

... and the same Shading settings as I did (see picture).

Don't click OK just yet ...

12.

On the left side click Inner Shadow and choose the same settings as I did (see picture).

Click OK.

13.

In the menu click Layer, Rasterize and choose Layer.

In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Warp.

Use your mouse to adjust the text to the curves of the ring (see picture).

Press Enter when done.

14.

All there's left to be done is; set Opacity of the text layer to 90% and Fill to 40%.

15.

And you are done, wear it with pride ;)
