Turn video black and white in Adobe Premiere

Let's me show you how to turn your color video clips into black and white using a Adobe Premiere video effects.

Import a video clip to your timeline.

Click here if for a very basic beginners tutorial if you are not sure how to do that.

Click Effects tab and click Video Effects ...

... click and hold Channel Mixer ...

... and drag it to the video clip you want to turn black&white (see picture).

Now go to Effects Controls, click Video Effects and click the arrow next to Channel Mixer to open the channel mixer settings.

 
 
6.
 

Go down a bit and check the Monochrome option.

 
 
7.
 

Your video clip should now become black and white.

If you are not satisfied with the default black and white state of your video clip, like in my case I find it it need a little more contrast do the following ...

Click the arrows next to channel mixer color options and play with the sliders (see picture).

Just experiment with the settings and see what combo works best with your video clip.
