Make a car look meaner
Let's make a mean car look even meaner in this step-by-step Photoshop tutorial.
1.
Open a picture of a car facing you with its front.
I'm going to try and make the 2007 Dodge Charger Super Bee a bit meaner looking.
2.
If necessary use the Zoom Tool to zoom in on the head lights.
Just click and drag your mouse to zoom in and out.
3.
Choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool or what ever selection tool you're more comfortable with.
4.
Make a selection similar to mine.
Press Ctrl + J to create a new layer from your selection.
5.
Choose the Move Tool ...
6.
... and move your new layer like I did.
Just click, drag and drop it.
7.
Press Ctrl + T to enter Free Transform mode and stretch the layer like I did.
The layer should fit to the original headlight frame as much as possible.
Do the same on the left side when necessary.
Press Enter when done fitting.
8.
Choose the Eraser Tool ...
9.
... and erase the problem areas (see picture).
10.
It should look something like this by now.
11.
Choose the Smudge Tool and set the appropriate size.
12.
Now click-hold the mouse button and start "smudging" to fill the gap between the new layer and original picture.
Just try and do your best, it's a trial and error kind of a deal, use Ctrl + Alt + Z to undo the changes if you mess things a bit too much.
13.
Right click the picture to change the Smudge settings, it might help you get a better result.
Try a softer brush and smaller size.
14.
And keep smudging until you are happy.
It depends of the amount of time your willing to invest to make it look perfect.
15.
To recreate the missing edge use the smudge tool and just continue in the direction you see on my picture.
Predict the flow of the edge. Use the smudge tool on boths sides of the edge as well for a more realistic effect.
16.
Correct the last problem areas ...
Use the Clone Stamp when needed, but I managed to do it with Smudge Tool.
17.
... and you're done!
What do you think the original Super Bee or my version?
