Content aware resizing

Adobe Photoshop CS5 comes with a truly amazing feature called content awareness, let's see how the scaling works.

1.

Open a picture in Photoshop.

2.

Press Ctrl + A to select the whole picture.

3.

Press Ctrl +T and try resizing the picture, by clicking and dragging the right edge a bit to the left (see picture). Press Enter to confirm the change and click Select and Deselect to get rid of the selection.

In this case, as you can see the whole picture, horse and the background shrunk and we can say the picture is now pretty useless.

4.

Let's bring the picture back to the original state.

In the History window click Open.

If you can't see the History window click Window in the menu and choose History.

5.

With the original picture restored, click Edit and Choose Content-Aware Scale.

6.

Now try resizing the picture by dragging the right edge back and forth. Can you see the difference between the conventional resizing we did earlier? Press Enter to confirm the changes.

7.

Great isn't it, like by magic the picture is now narrower but the horse and the background aren't distorted. How cool is that?!
