Blank blue tiles missing Outlook and Lync icons in MS Office 2013 for Windows 8.1

After a certain Windows 8.1 update, icons and text disappear from Outlook and Lync 2013 tiles. All you can see are two blank blue tiles. Let me show you how to bring back icons and text.

This is the situation I am talking about.

In order to get Outlook 2013 and Lync 2013 icons and text back into the tiles, you need to install the Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Office 2013.

2.

Press Windows Key + W to bring the search among settings dialog then enter windows update and click Check for updates (see picture).

3.

In Windows Update window, click Check now.

4.

Wait for the Windows Update to search for all the updates available to then click View details.

5.

Among all the available Windows updates look for the Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 and check it.

You can of course install all the other available updates while you are at it.

6.

Click Install ...

7.

... and wait for the Windows Update to finish.

8.

If asked to restart your PC to finish installing updates, click Restart now.

Don't forget to save all the stuff you are might be working on prior to clicking Restart now.

9.

After the restart, Outlook 2013 and Lync 2013 icons and text should be visible again.
