Default programs
Let's see how to set which programs should by default open certain files in Windows 7.

|
Click the Start button and enter default programs into Search programs and files field.
|
|
|

|
|
In the Programs search results click Default Programs.
|
|
|

|
Choose Set your default programs.
|
|
|

|
In my case I have some Adobe products opening image files like png or jpg by default. I don't want that, I want the Windows Photo Viewer to open all my image files.
Click the Program you want set as default, I selected Windows Photo Viewer...

|
...and clicked the Set this program as default on the right side.
Now all my image files (.png, .jpg, ...) are going to get opened by Windows Photo Viewer.

|
You can also set exactly what kind of file type are going to be opened by a certain program.
Let's take Paint as an example.

Click Choose defaults for this program.
|
|
|

|
|
And select the files you want to associate with Paint. I selected .bmp type of files.

|
Click Save to store your settings.
