Basic Photoshop tutorial for everyone where we will open any color photograph and then with a little trick create a nice gradient color transition to black and white.

  Author: NikMan | Version: CS5 | 20th December 2013 |

1.

Open any color photograph you want.

2.

Press Ctrl (Command on MacOS) and J together to duplicate photograph into new layer.

3.

We will remove the colors from duplicated layer.

Click above on Image, Adjustments and select Black and White...

In a new windows play with color sliders a little to achieve a a good transition ...

4.

... like I did.

Press OK when satisfied.

5.

Select Lasso Tool (L).

6.

Now make a selection on half of photograph (like I did).

7.

Click above on Select, Modify and choose Feather...

In a new window set Feather Radius to around 100 pixels and click OK.

My photograph is around 1200 x 900 pixels big. If your is bigger, than set radius bigger.

8.

Press Delete key to delete the selected area of duplicated layer.

Click above on Select and choose Deselect to remove selection.

9.

And we are finished.
