Selective colors in Gimp
I will show you how to expose just a part of the picture with colors using mask layer mask in GIMP.

1.

Open a picture in GIMP.
|
|
|

|
|
In the menu click Layer and Duplicate Layer.
|
|
|

|
In the menu click Colors and choose Hue-Saturation...
In the settings window set the Saturation to -100 and click OK.
|
|
|

|
In the menu click Layer, Mask and choose Add Layer Mask...
|
|
|

|
With the White (full opacity) option checked click Add.
|
|
|

Select the Paintbrush Tool.
|
|
|

Set the appropriate size of the Paintbrush tool ...

... and start painting the parts of the picture you want to expose.

No need to be to accurate as we will learn how to correct the over painted areas.

Press X on the keyboard to select white as a foreground color and reduce the Paintbrush size by setting the Scale.

Hold Ctrl and use the mouse wheel to zoom in the picture.
Start "unpaiting" the problem areas.
