Microsoft Security Essentials

It's highly recommended to protect your computer against Virus, Malware, Spyware and other potential threats. Microsoft Security Essentials is one of the better, free solutions.

When the pages shows up, click on Download Microsoft Security Essentials.

 

Click Run.

I was using Internet Explorer 9 in this lesson, but the procedure is quite similar in other browsers like Firefox or Chrome.

 

Click Next. 

Click I accept.

 

 

Choose whatever you want here and click Next.

Click Next.

Click Install.

Installation is in progress.     

Click Restart now in case you get asked to do so and the computer will Reboot.

After the system restart,  MS Security Essentials proceeds immediately with the virus and spyware definitions update.

These are the latest definitions that prevent your computer from getting infected with unwanted programs and viruses.

 

After the update the quick scan of your computer starts. I recommend letting it go through, it only lasts a few minutes, it depends on the amount of data you have on your hard drives.

 

 

 

That's it. If everything went well and your computer is virus, spyware, malware free, you get a green sign and No threats were detected written next to it.

In case the Security Essentials find something unwanted, just follow the instructions.

 

You can also see the Icon in your windows taskbar bellow.

If the icon's green, everything 's ok, you have the latest updates and you computer is protected.

If the icon turns orange, it means your computer is potentially unprotected. It can mean you don't have the latest updates install or a potential threat exist. Just follow the instructions to reach the color green again.

The red icon means your computer is in risk. Follow the instructions to clean computer and get a green status again.
