Create artistic edges on a photo with Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will find out how to make interesting borders on a random photo. You will need Adobe Photoshop CS6 or later.

Open a random colour photo.

I have opened a small phonograph from a small and beautiful town Ljubljana.

We will fill the document with white colour first.

Click above on Layer, New Fill Layer and choose Solid Color...

When Photoshop asks you for a Adjustment Layer's name, just click on OK.

In a Color Picker select a white colour and click OK.

After that select the mask of new adjustment layer (see my pic).

Choose Brush Tool (shortcut is a key B).

In a toolbar above click in brush picker ...

..., click in small option icon and select brushes named Thick Heavy Brushes.

When Photoshop ask you what to do with new brushes, just click on Append, to confirm.

Now click again on brush picker and select a brush names Flat Bristle (see my pic).

With Brush Tool start showing up the photograph below.

Improvise a little bit and don't unmask everything.

Pick up the brush called Rough Flat Bristle.

With that brush you can improve the unmasked edges.

Create a new layer.

Click above on Edit and choose Fill...

In a new window select White and click OK.

Click above on Filter and choose Filter Gallery...

In a new window open Texture and choose Texturzer.

Se up the setting like I did and click OK.

Set up the blending mode Multiply on a new layer.

We are finished.
