1.

Open a picture

It works the best on photos with a neutral background.

I used the picture of lovely Zooey Deschanel.

2.

Duplicate the image by clicking Layer in the menu and choosing Duplicate Layer... (Ctrl + J for a keyboard shortcut).

Click OK to confirm the new layer if a window pops up.

3.

In the menu click Layer, Layer Style and choose Blending Options...

In Blending Options window disable G (green) and B (blue) channels  (see picture).

4.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform.

Right click the document and choose Warp.

5.

Now use your mouse and drag on different points of the mesh to achieve that stereoscopic 3D look of your choice.

6.

When done click Commit transform (Return) button.

7.

The 3D effect is basically done. But lets continue to tweak the image a bit more. I don't want the 3D effect to be on the eyes that's why I'm masking it out.

Click the add layer mask button on the duplicated layer (see picture).

8.

Choose the Brush Tool (B for a keyboard shorcut).

9.

You should have the black/white color for the foreground/background set.

If you added the layer mask this most probably already is the case.

10.

Carefully keep clicking over the eyes or the parts of the image where you don't want the stereoscopic 3D effect to be going on.

11.

That's it, you are done.
