A simple cutout pop art photo effect in Photoshop
Let's use a photo of a rock star and create a simple pop art, cut out style effect by applying a couple of Photoshop filters.

1.

|
Open a photo featuring a rock star.
I'm using a photo of a Muse band front man.
|
|
|
2.

|
|
Choose the Quick Selection Tool (W for a keyboard shortcut).
|
|
|

|
Create a selection around the rock star.
Click here, if you are not quite sure how to use the quick selection tool.

In the menu click Layer and choose Duplicate Layer...
Click OK when the new window appears.

In the menu click Image, Adjustments and choose Threshold...
Experiment with the sliders a bit to achieve the similar effect as I did (see step 6 picture) and click OK.

Choose the original layer/picture.
|
|
|

In the menu click Image, Adjustments and choose Hue/Saturation...
Again experiment with the sliders until you get the background color you like and click OK.

In the menu click Filter, Artistic and choose Cutout...
Choose the similar settings to mine and click OK.
