How to play FLAC files in Windows Media Player 12
FLAC is an audio file that enables you to play songs without the lost of sound quality unlike MP3 files for instance. I will show you what you need to do in order to play FLAC in Windows 7 - Media Player 12 .

In order to play FLAC files in Windows Media Player 12, we need to download and install a FLAC audio codec.
Click here to go to the madFLAC codec download page.
On the madFLAC download page, click the Download link (see picture).

|
Wait for the codec to download, then open the .zip file and extract the madFlac folder to your computer.
You can simply drag and drop the folder to the desktop or other location on your computer.

Open the madFlac folder, right-click the install.bat and choose Run as administrator (see picture).
|
|
|

|
If you get a window asking you to allow installing InstallFilter.exe click Yes.
You should see a quick black window flicker and if everything went well a window appears saying "The DirectShow filter 'madFlac.ax' was registered successfully."
Click OK.

And if you now go to the folder where your FLAC files/songs are stored, there should be a Windows Media Player icon infront of them, meaning the files are ready to be played.
Simply double click one of the songs ...

... and the FLAC file should start playing immediately.
