Giant squids can reach the size of 50 feet (15 meters) and live and hunt in the very depths of the ocean. There have been photographs and footage taken of this mystical creature, but the NHK and Discovery Channel describes the newest recordings, as the first-ever footage of a live giant squid in its natural habitat.

On the pre-released clip of the Abc News we can get a glimpse of this slippery giant, but you can still notice its huge eyes and long tentacles. The Japanese crew that recorded the video took hundreds of tries at depths of 3000 feet (900 meters) and more to catch these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.

The full footage of the event is going to be revealed on NHK Special on January 13, 2013 (world premiere)  and on Discovery Channel's show Monster Squid: The Giant Is Real in January 27, 201.
