VOLAR-e, 1000 Horsepower electric supercar from Spain |

Remember the Croatian Rimac Concept_One electric hypercar? Does the new VOLAR-e remind you a bit of it? Well it is not a coincidence, VOLAR-e was indeed engineered as a collaboration between Rimac Automobili and Applus Idiada.
The VOLAR-e project is co-funded by the European Commission with a goal to create one of the most powerful electric cars in the world and change people's perception that high-performance racing cars don't need to be loud, environmental unfriendly, gas guzzling monsters. Did they succeed? The specs speak for themselves.
VOLAR-e's electric powertrain delivers mind-blowing 1,000 horsepower and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm) of torque. All this power is generated by four electric motors, each for its own wheel, yes it's an all wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, VOLAR-e's battery pack can be fully charged in only 15-20 minutes. The downside is the battery capacity, with only 38 kWh (92 kWh in Rimac Concept_One) it can achieve a modest range of 125 miles (200 km) when driven moderate, when boasting at full throttle it only lasts under 3 minutes. Nevertheless it seems to be a great e-racing prototype and serve as a great ambassador of what we will see a lot more in the future. Check out VOLAR-e track test in the following video.
Although the car is a fruit of collaboration with Rimac, Applus Idiada stated that their e-hypercar only shares about five percent of its components with the bigger Croatian brother, Rimac Concept_One. Other impressive data petrol, I mean electro heads might be interested in:
0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 3.4 seconds
quarter-mile drag: 10.3 seconds
top speed: 186 mph (300 km/h) in only 12.1 seconds

Amazing the amount of power the e-cars can squeeze out these days. The 200 km range is still better than a lot of smaller cars with only a fraction of Volar-e's power output. |
