I wonder what kind of app could I try for photo editing like Photoshop Lightroom for example?

Personally I would say Gimp. It's fast, lightweight and rich in functionality. There aren't many things you can do with Photoshop and you couldn't do with Gimp as well and it doesn't take long to get used to it either. You can start here with our step-by-step Gimp Tutorials.
