Wrinkles be gone GIMP tutorial

You may think one has to be a trained professional to be able to remove the wrinkles from a picture. Think again.

  Author: mat | Version: 2.6.11 | 22nd August 2011 |

1.

Open a picture in GIMP.

For the lesson where to download and how to install GIMP, click here.

Brad Pitt isn't getting any younger, so I decided to give him a free botox treatment :)

2.

Click Healing Tool in the Toolbox.

3.

Set the Scale accordingly, depends of your picture size.

For the size of the wrinkles on my picture, 1.15 was enough.

4.

Now we need to choose the source pattern to hide the wrinkles.

Press Ctrl,  hold it then click  the part of the skin right under the wrinkle, where the skin looks tight and release the Ctrl key.

5.

Now hold the mouse button and start painting the wrinkle, just drag it over the wrinkle. That way your going to apply the area that the little circle with + goes over. (see picture)

6.

When you're finished with the first wrinkle go to the next. Do the same as in step 5; hold Ctrl and click the tight area, release the Ctrl... ...

7.

... hold the click and start painting over the wrinkle.

8.

When you're finished with the forehead, do the same with the little eye wrinkles...

9.

...like that.

10.

For the left eye, in my case, we need to down Scale it a bit to 0.84 and set the Opacity to about 70.

The lighting on the left side of the face makes the wrinkles look deeper then the ones on the right side, I needed to lower the opacity to achieve the more natural effect.

11.

And again I did the same with the left eye wrinkles as I did with the previous ones.

Adjust the source area with Ctrl key, if needed. It can happen you start painting/cloning some additional wrinkles, that you do not want.

12.

And the last wrinkle...

13.

...is gone.

14.

That's it, nothing to it really, just be patient if it doesn't happen immediately, use Ctrl+Z function to undo the changes you don't like and start over.
