  Author: mat | Version: 4.2.4 | 26th April 2012 |

1.

Click here to visit the Google Analytics for Wordpress download page.

When on the page, click Download button (see picture).

2.

Download the plugin and save to a folder, so you will be able to find it.

3.

Login to you Wordpress admin panel.

For instance: if your site url is www.mysite.com then you should go to http://www.mysite.com/wp-admin.

4.

In Wordpress admin panel, click Plugins and choose Add New.

5.

Click Upload link and click Browse...

6.

Choose the plugin zip file you downloaded ...

7.

... and click Install Now.

Google Analytics for Wordpress should now be installed.

Let's leave the Wordpress Admin for now (don't close the window though) and go to the Google Analytics account.

8.

Open a new Tab or a Window in your browser and go to http://www.google.com/analytics

When on Google Analytics homepage, click Sing in.

9.

When asked for your Google user and password enter them.

In Google Analytics account, click Admin (see picture).

10.

We are going to add a new Google Analytics account which you will need for tracking your Wordpress site.

Click New Account.

11.

Enter your new account name and enter url address of a Wordpress site you want to track.

Choose your Time zone ...

12.

Choose your country, choose Yes, I agree ... option and click Create Account.

13.

New Google Analytics account for your Wordpress site should now be created.

Every Google Analytics account/profile has a unique Tracking ID that needs to be connected to website you are tracking. Usually you need to embed the code you see at the bottom of your screen, into code of the page you want to track. Google Analytics for Wordpress plugin will do just that without you needing to "mess" with the code.

14.

Click Save.

Let's now go back to Wordpress admin window.

15.

Click Plugins and choose Installed Plugins.

16.

Find Google Analytics for Wordpress plugin and click Activate (see picture).

Don't worry about the warning message, it's all good.

17.

Click Settings (see picture).

18.

We now need to authenticate Wordpress plugin with Google.

Click Authenticate with Google.

In my case it's Re-authenticate with Google as I already authenticated my plugin before.

19.

Click Grant access.

20.

Now choose  Account and Profile of Website you added to your Google Analytics a few steps back.

21.

Click Update Google Analytics Settings and you are done!

Happy web traffic tracking!
