Have a rocking birthday Part 2

Let's wish our friends a happy birthday with a different kind of a birthday card in the part 2 of this rocking birthday card tutorial.

  Author: mat | Version: CS5 | 23rd February 2012 |

1.

Part 1 of the tutorial:

Open your saved document and let's continue where we left.

Choose the candle reflection layer and set the opacity to 25%.

Press Ctrl + J to duplicate the layer.

2.

Press V to choose the Move Tool and move the duplicated candle reflection layer to the second candle (see picture).

3.

Again press Ctrl + J to duplicate the layer and move the new duplicated candle reflection layer to the remaining candle.

4.

Now choose the Eraser Tool.

5.

Right click the document and set the eraser Size to about 80 px.

Hardness should be set to about 80%.

6.

Now erase the candle reflection disturbing edges, if there are some.

Don't forget to change the layers when erasing individual reflections.

7.

This is how it should look like by now.

8.

Let's write a personalized happy birthday wish on to all of the three fingers.

Choose the Vertical Type Tool.

9.

Choose a nice font that looks like hand writing and set the size to about 24 pt.

You can use the font included in the Dreevoo_com_rocking_birthday.zip you were suppose to download in the Part 1 of the lesson. The font file name is called HandWri2.ttf.

Click here for the lesson on how to install new fonts.

10.

Enter happy on to the first finger (see picture) ...

11.

... press and hold Ctrl key then rotate and move text to align it with the finger.

12.

Press the Commit button (see picture).

13.

Set the Opacity of the new text layer to 90% for a bit more realistic feel.

14.

Write birthday onto the middle finger the same way you did for the first one (see picture).

15.

Now for the last finger ...

Choose the Horizontal Type Tool.

16.

And enter a name of the person you are wishing a happy rocking birthday.

You might want to leave a space between the letters like I did.

17.

All there is left to do, is to adjust the lighting on the hand a bit.

Select the hand layer.

18.

Press Ctrl + L to open levels settings.

Set the dark tones to about 9 and middle tones to about 0.90.

19.

That's it, now send your master piece to the first person that's having a birthday and wish him a rocking one!

Don't forget to change the name though. ;)
