Kaleidoscope effect in Photoshop

Remember kaleidoscope thingies from your childhood? We're going to try and recreate the effect from scratch using Photoshop filters.

1.
 

Create a new document, in the menu click Edit and choose Fill...

Choose the color black and click OK.

In the menu click Filter, Render and choose Lens Flare...

In the Lens Flare settings window select the option 50-300mm Zoom and Brightness 100 %.

Move the Flare Center to upper left corner (see picture) and click OK.

Repeat the step three more times to achieve the same result as you can see it on my picture.

In the menu click Filter, Sketch and choose Chrome...

In the settings window set the to 8  and Smoothness to 6.

Click OK.

In the menu click Filter, Stylize and choose Find Edges.

Press CTRL + I to invert the picture.

Press CTRL + J, to duplicate the layer.

In the menu Edit, Transform and choose Flip Vertical.

Set the new layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press CTRL + E, to merge layers.

Press CTRL + J, to duplicate layer.

In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Flip Horizontal.

Set the new layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press CTRL + E, to merge layers.

Press CTRL + J, to duplicate layer.

In the menu click Edit, Transform and choose Rotate 90 CW.

Set the new layer blending mode to Lighten (see picture).

Press CTRL + E, to merge layers.

This is how it looks like by now.

Let's add some color.

Press CTRL + U and choose Colorize.

Fool around with the sliders a bit to achieve the color you lile.

Click OK.
