Vignette Photo Effect using Photoshop

In this tutorial we're going to add a discrete black circular framing called vignette.

1.
 

Open a picture where you want to add the vignette effect.

Create a new layer.

 
 
3.
 

Choose the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

 
 
4.
 

Click the picture and make similar selection to mine.

Press Shift + Ctrl + I to inverse the selection.

In the menu click Select and choose Refine Edge.

In the new settings window set the Feather to about 40 px and click OK.


 
 
6.
 

Choose the Paint Bucket Tool.

Press D to set the black foreground color.

 
 
7.
 

Click the selection.

The vignette effect is basically applied but to dark for my liking.

 
 
8.
 

Set the new layer Opacity to 60%.

You can choose you're own value if it works better for your picture.

 
 
9.
 

Done and Solo the Boston terrier is still at chill.
