Website design part 2

In second part of Website design lesson we will prepare colors and a frame for the front page of our webpage.

Open Nvu program.

Press + sign on the left side to open project you have created in previous lesson.

Double-click on index.html to open it in main window of Nvu program.

Click Format and select Page Colors and Background...

Select Use custom colors and click a square next to Normal text.

Select white color and click OK.

Now do the same for Link text, Active link text and Visited link text. After that clik selector for Background...

...and at Hex field enter #5F8CBB, which represents blue color. Click OK.

If you set some other color you might have problems in next lessons.

Click OK, to close the color and background window.

Now we will set tables, where we will later put some elements, like pictures and links to subpages.

Click Table icon.

Select Prcisely. Enter Rows: 2, Columns: 1, Width: 100 % of window, Border: 0. Click Advanced Edit...

For cellspacing and cellspadding define 0.

Click OK and click OK again to create the table.

The table is created.

Click in the bottom part of the table.

Click Insert above and select Table.

Now click Precisely and enter Rows: 1, Columns: 3, Width: 100 % of cell, Border: 0.

Click Advanced Edit and define values cellspacing and cellpadding to 0.

Click OK and again OK.

New line shows up below. Click in it and press DEL.

We have inserted new table with three columns in lower part of the table.

Select left column to set its width. Later we will add picture in this column.

Right-click in the cell you have previously selected and select Table Cell Properties...

In Table properties window mark Width checkbox and set Width to 280 pixels.

Now right-click in the middle cell and select Table Cell properties.

This time check Width and set it to 10 pixels.

Click OK.

Now we will save the page under new universal coding format. This format allows you to use the document on other computers without having any problems with the special letters and signs.

Click File and select Save And Change Character Encoding. Under Character Encoding select Unicode (UTF-8) and click OK.

In Save Page As window save the file as index.html.

Index.html is the same file as it was in previous lesson.
