How to tint car windows using Gimp

Some cars just look better with tinted windows. Let's make this happen using GIMP.

  Author: mat | Version: 2.6.11 | 20th September 2011 |

1.

Open a car picture in GIMP.

I'm going to tint the windows of Tesla Model S electric car.

2.

Select the Paths Tool.

3.

Start drawing the path around the window (see picture).

Just draw some lines, you can fine tune them in the next step.

4.

Fine tune the lines by dragging them.

Use Ctrl key to add some more points to the lines if necessary.

5.

When done, click Selection from Path (Shift + V for keyboard shortcut).

6.

Now do the same for the other window or windows.

First draw some lines...

7.

... and fine tune them by clicking and dragging them.

8.

And again when done, click Selection from Path (Shift + V for keyboard shortcut).

9.

Now in the menu click Layer and New Layer (Shift + Ctrl + N for keyboard shortcut)

10.

In the new layer window click OK.

11.

Select the Bucket Fill Tool ...

Foreground color should be black.

12.

... click one of the windows you selected previously ...

13.

... and they're black.

14.

For some more realistic effect set the New layer Opacity to about 88.

15.

Press Shift + Ctrl + A to deselect the selection and you're done!
