Text on transparent background using Photoshop

A short and useful Photoshop tutorial where I will show you how to create a see-through text on a transparent background.

  Author: NikMan | Version: CS5 | 16th January 2013 |

1.

Open a random photo in Photoshop.

2.

Create a new layer.

3.

In the menu click Edit and choose Fill...

In the Fill settings window, set White as Use and click OK.

4.

Set the new layer opacity to 70% (see picture).

5.

Choose the Horizontal Type Tool (T for a keyboard shortcut).

6.

Set the font you like.

It should be a thicker font, I'm using the Arial Black.

7.

Set the black text color (see picture).

8.

Click the document, enter some text and confirm it.

9.

In the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform (CTRL + T for a keyboard shortcut)

Now transform and move the text in a way you like it.

When done Enter to confirm the changes.

10.

In the menu click Layer, Layer Style and choose Blending Options...

11.

Set the Knockout to Shallow and Fill Opacity to 0% (see picture).

Click OK.

12.

Choose the white layer.

13.

Again in the menu click Edit and choose Free Transform (CTRL + T for a keyboard shortcut).

Resize the layer the way you like it and press Enter to confirm the changes.

14.

Done!
