Enable Internet search from the start menu

A less known feature that enables you to search the web from the Windows 7 start menu using Search programs and files field.

Click the Windows Start button and type gpedit.msc into the Search programs and files field then press Enter.

In the Local Group Policy window, click User Configuration, Administrative Templates and choose Start Menu and Taskbar.

Look for the Add Search Internet link to Start menu option, right click it and choose Edit.

Choose Enabled and click OK.

 
 
5.
 

No go back to the Star menu and enter whatever you want to search into the search field.

Now click the Search the Internet ...

 
 
6.
 

... and your default browser with your default search engine opens showing the results of your search keywords.
